Devotional Story

The Old Inning Team Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse. Romans 12:14.

Communist leader Fidel Castro has restricted Christianity in his Caribbean island country of Cuba. This makes it difficult for most Christians to visit Cuba. But not for the Hampton Christian Warriors. Their passion is baseball. Mr. Castro loves baseball too.

Hampton Christian High School in Hampton, Virginia, recently formed a league-with high schools in Cuba. They call themselves the Big Inning Team. They travel to Cuba to play the baseball teams of 14 rural schools, one team in each of Cuba's 14 provinces.

While touring these small towns, they visit churches, share their love for Jesus with young people like themselves, and worship with fellow believers.

These teens and their coaches have found a creative way to bless and help strengthen the spiritual convictions of Cuban young people-through baseball.

For 40 years Cuban Christians have been persecuted, imprisoned, killed, and tortured. Those outside prison walls have found ways to worship God and to maintain their faith in secret. But this secret life can be lonely.

Those imprisoned by government, ideology, health problems, and adverse circumstances need our prayers to remain strong in the face of adversity.
